Only Natural

About this Collection

Around 2004, I began to study ikebana (Japanese flower design), a focused practice that includes looking closely at nature which, over time, calmed my soul to create, my mind to focus, my hand to design and my eyes to better define color and texture. Inspired by the mountains, my color palette changed to greens, reds, oranges and browns in all varieties. Inspiration evolved from hikes on the Blue Ridge and quilts painted on barns in Western North Carolina. Now I see quilted landscape patterns everywhere as I look down into valleys and across lakes.  I walk nearby trails and feel what and why quilting inspired the strong mountain women who first blazed the trails I now travel. Wandering and wondering, I pick up leaves along the way, save, dry and cherish their shapes, colors and textures as I consider how all things natural come together over time.
