Near Yet Faraway

About this collection

Born prematurely and short of sight, blindness in one eye has challenged me to better define depth in the landscape. I pointedly seek the horizon when I walk sandy beaches and consciously identify focal points in all things 3D or evoked through dimensionality.

Always motivated by a challenge, I began to lay down visuals and textures in my art that define where sand and sea separate from land, mountains and sky. Near to far horizons, and in faraway places like Nova Scotia, this landscape practice becomes more natural when I embrace the water all around me as a way to train my eye to see depth. After all, I come from New Orleans, live near a lake and vacation on the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. Water is a life force for my body and an inspiration for my art.
