Seeds Sewn

About this Collection

Born to a New Orleans family with deep Southern roots, I’m a reflection of the cultural gumbo of diverse communities collaborating through creativity, celebrations and traditions. As a child, I heard boats sound their horns on the river and later streetcars rumbling down the tracks, costumed, marched and rode in Mardi Gras parades, attended the very first Jazz Fest in Congo Square with my son in his stroller, and watched Papa Noel float down the Mississippi River following a path of fiery piers to bring Christmas bounty from Baton Rouge to the Crescent City. Intrinsic to this was careful attention to history, art, culture, dialect, food and music. I even roamed cemeteries with my father revealing the generational roots of family, friends and community leaders.

This has instilled in me a deep respect for all cultures and a personal desire to experience as many and much as I can.  Seeds Sewn reflects cultures bound together using woven threads, paper, images and found objects. As a collage, they reveal a glimpse into worlds visited and stories inspired.
